Everybody's having babies in Brooklyn. Except Sunita and Vivek. Time After: a film about what to do with the rest of your life...
"Time After" follows Sunita Pandya and Vivek Fernando, a Brooklyn couple who are trying to decide on whether to have a family while pursuing their careers. A raucous dinner party with their friends, John, Emily, Silva and Tamara lead Sunita and Vivek to have the conversation they've been putting off. "Time After" is about that moment when one decision changes the course of your life irrevocably.
WRITER & CO-DIRECTOR SANJIT DE SILVA'S STATEMENT:
"Time After" is a short film inspired by the many conversations I’ve had with my wife and friends about what it means to start a family and still have a career. My wife and I are artists who live in one of the most expensive cities in the world, and sometimes we feel like we are barely able to make ends meet. But we also live in Brooklyn, where it seems like EVERYONE has kids. And often we feel guilt and pressure to keep up.
We have friends whose children are the most important part of their lives but we also have friends whose careers are at the center of their lives. Sometimes it feels like a career is more important than having children period and sometimes it doesn't. I certainly have friends who value their career more than having a child. And why shouldn't they? It hasn't been easy for us to balance having a family with all of our goals and aspirations. What if things had turned out differently?
I haven't seen a film that tries to capture the complexity of this issue sufficiently, and certainly not from the perspective of people of color. I feel compelled to make a movie that puts the questions that my wife and I are grappling with out there. I still don't know what my answers are, but I feel that just asking them has been incredibly illuminating, and I hope "Time After" will be as complex as the journey my wife and I have been on and are still undertaking.
